Information
Deciduous tree 7–15 m. tall; young branches, leaves and inflorescences cinereous-pubescent, older branches glabrous. Leaves 12–30 (40) cm. long; petiole 3·5–7 (9) cm. long; leaflets opposite, 2–4 (6)-jugate, subsessile or petiolulate; petiolules 1–2 mm. long, that of the terminal leaflet sometimes up to 20 mm.; lamina 4–9 (11) × 2–4 (5) cm., papyraceous, ovate or oblong-ovate to elliptic, acuminate or acute at the apex, margin entire with a row of rather closely spaced pellucid gland-dots, asymmetric at the base, softly pubescent on both surfaces. Inflorescence of panicles arising from the buds at the end of the previous year’s branches and occasionally between two new branches. Flowers 4-merous; pedicels 6–10 mm. long. Sepals 4, 0·9–1·3 mm. long, united at the base, densely whitish-pubescent, ovate, acute. Petals 4, 5–6 mm. long, imbricate in bud, oblanceolate. Male flowers: stamens 8, shorter than the petals; anthers 1 mm. long, basifixed, 2-lobed at the base; vestigial ovary glabrous. Female flowers: staminodes present; disk annular; ovary 4-locular, slightly 4-lobed, with 1 apical ovule in each loculus; style very short; stigma slightly 4-lobed. Fruit 6–7 mm. in diam.

Slopes of mountains in rocky places
Range
Known only from S. Rhodesia and Nyasaland. F. angolensis var. angolensis occurs in tropical East Africa and Angola.
