Information
Differs from subsp. humile in the following characters: dries a darker colour, has scattered often puberulous hairs between the nerves on the under side of the leaves which are often also puberulous above, the leaves tend to be broader, the stipules smaller and the hairs on the pedicels tend to be sparser and longer.
Habitat
Often on stony ground and appearing to have a ready tolerance for serpentine or chrome-bearing soils.

Notes
Subsp. humile is apparently confined to Natal and subsp. dolichopus is mainly in the Transvaal and S. Rhodesia although an occasional specimen of the latter subspecies (e.g. Codd 2499 (PRE; SRGH) from Utrecht) has been recorded in Natal.
