Liane, sparsely hairy to glabrescent. Leaf-lamina 2–7 x 2–9 cm., subreniform, sometimes ovate-orbicular, generally auriculate and attenuate near the petiole or ± broadly cordate at the base, obtuse or rounded at the apex, discolorous, slightly pubescent or glabrescent on both sides but with a few yellowish hairs at the base of the nerves, nerves 3–5-palmate, petiole 2–7 cm. long, generally inserted at the base of the lamina or very near (1 mm.). Male inflorescences of axillary cymes, solitary or two together; peduncle and pedicels sparsely pubescent to glabrescent; bract linear, 0.5 mm. long. Male flowers with 4 sepals 1–1.2 x 0.5–0.7 mm., ovate-elliptic or obovate, slightly connate at the base, glabrous, 1-nerved; petals 4, very often connate into a cup-shaped corolla, sometimes imperfectly connate and one petal free or the cup-shaped corolla once or twice deeply indented; synandrium 4-locular, ± 1 mm. long. Female inflorescences of cymes of 1–4-flowered cymules 2–10 cm. long; pedicels 0.3–1 cm. long. Female flowers generally with 2 sepals, sometimes 3 or 4, 1.5 x 0.5 mm., glabrous, 1-nerved; petals very often 2, sometimes 3 or 4, 0.5–0.7 x 0.5–1.5 mm., more or less fleshy, glabrous; carpel 1–1.2 mm. long; stigma 3-fid. Drupe obovate-compressed, 4–7 x 3–5 mm. Seeds 6–8 mm. long.
