Information
Plants 50–105 cm. Rhizome thick, horizontal, moniliform, with concentric rings of old leaf-attachments, up to 10 cm. long, bearing fibrous remains of old leaf-bases; roots long, spongy, often somewhat swollen towards the tips, but without distinct tubers. Leaves rosulate, linear to narrowly lanceolate, often half-folded (canaliculate), 17–50(–70) cm. long, and 1–2(–3) cm. wide; margins ± undulate, ciliate. Peduncle terete, with bract-like leaves along its entire length, glabrous below, densely papillate-pubescent above, 35–70 cm. long. Inflorescence a subspicate raceme, unbranched or with 1–3 basal branches; rhachis densely pubescent; floral bracts linear, ciliate, lower ones up to 2 cm. long. Pedicels articulated at apex, up to 1.5–5 mm. long, often pubescent, (2–)3–5-nate at the lower nodes. Perianth white, bell-shaped to urceolate, constricted just above the ovary; tepals 8–11 mm. long, 2.5–4 mm. wide, 3-veined, scabrid at the tips, densely glandular papillate on the inside at the constriction. Stamens exserted; filaments fusiform, widest in upper half, glabrous to papillate, 10–13 mm. long; anthers 2–3 mm. long. Style declinate, ± as long as the stamens. Capsule oblong, deeply 3-lobed (triquetrous), smooth, 6–10 mm. long, slightly narrower than long. Seeds flat, 3–4 mm. in diameter. Fig. 4/1–2.
