Notes
VARIATION. As treated here the species shows considerable variation in texture, size and toothing of the leaves. The Uganda material generally has at least some leaves coarsely toothed and often rather large, chartaceous and markedly acuminate. The coastal and lowland rain-forest specimens of Kenya and Tanganyika, on the other hand, have typically entire, smaller, more coriaceous and less acuminate leaves. The first form is characteristic of Ethiopia and Congo Republic, but both forms occur again in Cameroun, Angola and West Africa. The second form is found in Mozambique and the Mascarene Is. Both forms may be closely matched by specimens from Ceylon and the Andaman Is., including the syntypes.
