stems as stout as whip-cord; cymes congested into lax-flowered spikes; calyx 1/4 as long as the corolla, firm in texture; lobes round, obtuse, much imbricate; tube very short; corolla 1 1/2–2 lin. long; lobes oblong, obtuse, shorter than the campanulate tube; anthers subglobose, sessile at the throat of the corolla-tube; styles short, thick, connate up to the emarginate stigma; capsule globose, firm in texture, indehiscent, about 2 lin. in diam. null
