Information
Spreading or prostrate herb or small shrub; branches densely spreading pubescent. Leaves 5–15 cm long, eglandular; stipules subulate above broader base or triangular, (2.5–)4–7 mm long; leaflets (3–)4–8(–9) pairs, mostly oblong-elliptic with upper ones more obovate, 1–2.5 x 0.5–1(–1.5) cm, conspicuously to densely pubescent. Racemes 2–8(–17) cm long; bracts broadly ovate to elliptic, obtuse to shortly acuminate, 5–8(–10) mm long. Petals yellow, 4–8 mm long. Stamens arranged as in S. alexandrina. Pods shortly oblong-falcate, flattened, 2.5–3(–3.5) x 1.2–1.5 cm, conspicuously hairy and without a ridge of crests. Seeds similar to S. longiracemosa, 4.5–5 x 2.8–3.5 mm.
Range
N1–3 near Red Sea from Sudan to Somalia and east through Arabia to Pakistan (Sind), also Socotra and possibly in the Saharo-Sindian region as far west as Mali.
Jalelo, jalelo ari (Som.). Very similar to S. italica and S. alexandrina var. obtusata, differing from both in the consistently spreading rather dense indumentum and smaller pods, from the former in the uncrested pods, and from the latter in the smaller flowers and generally smaller size of the plants.
