Information
Shrub or small tree 1–5(–7.5) m. high. Branchlets pubescent. Leaves: petiole eglandular; rhachis with a narrow subulate or fusiform gland between each (except sometimes the terminal pair) of the (4–)6–13 pairs of leaflets. Stipules ± persistent, leafy, broadly reniform, 7–22 mm. wide, one side produced into a subulate point. Leaflets oblong-elliptic to obovate-elliptic, (0.8–)1–2.5(–3.7) cm. long, 0.4–1(–1.2) cm. wide, rounded and mucronate at apex, in the Flora area ± puberulous on margins and midrib beneath (sometimes ± pubescent, especially beneath). Racemes corymbose, 2–8-flowered, aggregated into ± rounded terminal panicles. Sepals rounded at apex. Petals yellow, 1.7–3 cm. long. Stamens: 3 lower with large anthers and long filaments; 4 with medium anthers and short filaments; 3 upper with reduced anthers. Pods oblong-linear, straight, flattened, 6–10(–18) cm. long, 1.2–1.6(–2.3) cm. wide, indehiscent, with papery valves, transversely undulate between seeds, shortly pubescent. Seeds purplish-brown, compressed, ovate-oblong, 7–9 mm. long, 4–5 mm. wide; a distinct areole on each face 3–3.5 × 0.5–0.75 mm.

Notes
I am unable to follow Ghesquière’s contention (Rev. Bot. Appliq. 14: 244 (1934)) that C. densistipulata is specifically distinct from C. auriculata. If C. auriculata is truly native in East Africa then its geographical distribution is remarkable; however, the possibility of its early introduction by man into Tanganyika from the East should be considered. There is a specimen from T7, Iringa District, Ngerere (Busse 3034 in EA !), but there is no evidence to indicate whether it was from a wild plant or not.
