Information
stem tall, shrubby, erect, terete; leaves sub-connate, roundish obovate, obtuse, mucronulate, fleshy, flat, glaucous, punctate above, glabrous, smooth-edged; cymes panicled, oblong, pedunculate, trichotomous; calyx-lobes very short, lanceolate, keeled, glabrous; petals spreading, slightly connate at base, lanceolate, acute, mucronate, concave, one-nerved; styles subulate; squamæ minute, sessile, obcordate. A large shrub, 8–10 feet high, with robust stems and branches, and fleshy leaves. Leaves 1 1/2–2 1/2 inches long, and 1–2 inches wide. Panicles terminal, 3–6 inches long, with opposite, spreading, trichotomous branches. Bracts small, fleshy, ovate, acute. Calyx 1/4 or 1/5 as long as the stellate rose-red petals. Stamens slightly adnate at base, nearly as long as the petals; anthers small and short. Carpels tapering.
