Information
Annual herb 30–60 cm high. Stem branched or unbranched, angles very narrowly winged. Leaves somewhat fleshy, ovate, ovate-lanceolate, elliptic to obovate, 2–25(–35) mm long, 1.3–10(–15) mm wide, ± acute to obtuse, base decurrent, margins revolute. Inflorescences axillary, 2 flowers at each node, maturing acropetally. Flower 4-merous, pinkish or white. Calyx tube 1–2 mm long, teeth sharply triangular, ± 2 mm long, usually less than 0.5 mm wide, acuminate, membranous or hyaline at the margin. Corolla tube 3.5–5 mm long; lobes ovate, 1.2–2 mm long, 0.3–0.4 mm wide, ± acute. Filaments 0.4–5 mm long, inserted on the corolla tube; anthers 0.5–0.6 mm long, dorsifixed. Ovary ellipsoid, 2.5–3.5 mm long, ± 1 mm diameter; style 1.3–2 mm long; stigma bilobed; lobes 0.3–0.6 mm long. Capsule oblong, 3–4 mm long, 0.8–1.2 mm diameter. Seeds numerous, sub-pyramidal to cylindrical to cuboid, ± 0.4 mm long, surface reticulate-pitted. Fig. 8 (p. 29).
