Information
Shrub similar to C. somalensis in most features. Leaves obovate to oblong-oblanceolate, 3.5–9(–16) x 1.3–3(–4.5) cm, margins often undulate. Inflorescences always a panicle to 6 cm long, always longer than broad, flowers in ± umbellate clusters. Pedicels 4–6 mm long. Sepals 5–6 mm. Petals usually 5, sometimes up to 11, ovate to oblanceolate, 7–9.5 mm long, yellowish, rarely greenish. Stamens c. 20, c. as long as petals, densely hairy at base. Stigma peltate, 1.5 mm diam. Capsule ovoid, 6–7.5 mm long. Seed ± heart-shaped, c. 4 mm long, glossy black; aril yellowish, 2 mm long.

Material from the southern end of the range in Tanzania has much longer, relatively narrower leaves than Kenyan material; the only Somali collection seen is leafless, and was said to be collected on saline sandy soil.
