Information
A much-branched riparian shrub or small to medium-sized tree, 2–20(27) m. high. Leaves crowded at the ends of the branches, obovate-oblong or obovate-oblanceolate, 14–38(42) x 4–14(16) cm., acute or acuminate but sometimes rounded at the apex, slightly serrate-crenulate at the margin, cuneate at the base, papyraceous; midrib and the (10)13-18(20) pairs of lateral nerves less prominent above than beneath; petiole 2·5-10(15) mm. long. Flowers greenish-yellow, in 20-70(100) mm. long pendulous racemes. Pedicels 3-16(25) mm. long. Calyx closed in bud, rupturing into 2-4(5) elliptic accrescent lobes. Petals 4,15-25 x 5-15 mm., elliptic, obtuse at the apex, convex, white. Stamens in (5)6 whorls, the inner one staminoidal; staminal-tube 3·5-6 mm. high; filaments 22·5-38 mm. long, red; anthers c. 0·8 x 0·8 mm. Disk a thick grooved ring. Receptacle tetragonal, acute. Ovary (2)3-4-locular, 1·5-3·5 mm. in diameter, ± globose; ovules 2-3 per locule; style (2)3-5·5 cm. long. Fruit fibrous, 5-7(9) x 2-4(5·5) cm., rounded or subangular, pyramidal, ovate or oblong in outline, slightly winged, 1 -seeded. Seed ovoid, 2-4 x 1-2·5 cm., subtetragonous, tapering towards the apex.
