Information
Slender herb trailing or climbing to 0.3 m.; stem almost glabrous. Leaf-blade triangular, ± scabrid-punctate above, smooth beneath except on the nerves, entire or ± sinuate or sinuate-toothed, obtuse and apiculate, 26–72 mm. long, 28–93 mm. broad; petiole 7–30 mm. long. Monoecious. Male flowers 1–2; pedicels filiform, 11–45 mm. long; receptacle-tube 2 mm. long; lobes triangular-lanceolate, 0.5 mm. long; petals white becoming cream when old, small; stamens 3, shortly inserted. Female flowers solitary, sometimes co-axillary with ♂; pedicel filiform, 26–56 mm. long; ovary fusiform with small basal collar, 3–5 mm. long, 1–2 mm. across; receptacle-tube 2 mm. long; lobes filiform, 0.5 mm. long; petals 2 mm. long, 1 mm. broad. Fruit on a slender 20–58 mm. long stalk, globose, red, 6–10 mm. in diameter. Seeds elliptic in outline, smooth, bordered, with depressed convex disk, 3.5–4.5 × 2.5 × 0.5 mm.

DISTR. U4 west tropical Africa from Sierra Leone to Angola; also in Fernando Po
