Information
Stem 3 ft. high, minutely pubescent. Leaves up to 5 1/2 by 2 1/4 in., narrowed at both ends, minutely and sparsely bristly on both surfaces; petiole 1/4–1 1/2 in. long. Panicles up to 3 by 3/4 in., of very dense contracted cymes, with many-celled hairs of which the alternate cells are thicker; floral leaves 1/2 by 1/10– 1/8 in., narrow-lanceolate. Sepals exceeding 1/2 in. in length, linear-subulate, hairy as the bract. Corolla purple; tube 3/4–1 in. long; lips 1/3 in. long, subentire. Anthers exserted 1/4 in.; pollen globose, slightly trigonous, 3-banded, smooth or very nearly so. Pistil of the genus. Capsule 1/2 in. long, 4-seeded.
