Names
Brachystelma franksiae [family ASCLEPIADACEAE]
Information
Perennial herb. Rootstock with cluster of fusiform roots. Stem 1 (-2), erect, sparingly branched throughout, up to about 0,3 m tall, with few hairs near nodes and in thin line down side or glabrescent. Leaves linear to oblong-linear, subsessile, up to about 50 mm long, minutely scabrous along midrib below, slightly scabrid-ciliate on margin. Flowers 1-3, lateral at nodes; pedicels 6-10 mm long, slender. Sepals linear-lanceolate, about 2 mm long. Corolla 6-7 mm long, divided nearly to base, white, tinged with pink; tube saucer-shaped; lobes oblong, 6-7 mm long, erect, with recurved margins and keeled face, acute, papillate-pubescent on margin. Corona with outer lobes deeply 2-lobulate, appearing 10-lobate, with lobules curved laterally, minu­tely papillate; inner lobes linear, incumbent-erect, nearly 2,2 mm long, twice as long as outer lobes. Range
Mainly in the midland grassveld of Natal, being fairly frequent from Camperdown to Pietermaritz-burg.
