Information
Terrestrial herb 15–75 cm tall with fleshy, cylindrical, woolly, tuberous roots.Leaves numerous, overlapping, up to 6 × 2 cm in the middle of the stem, lanceolate, acute or acuminate, densely pubescent.Inflorescence 4–35 × 2.5–3.5 cm, densely or sometimes laxly many-flowered; ovary and pedicel 1.5–2.5 cm long, pubescent, purple; bracts leaf-like, up to 25 × 6 mm at base of inflorescence, pubescent.Flowers mauve-pink to purple-pink, orange or yellow in the centre, the sepals often darker at the tips.Sepals 5–8 × 2–4.5 mm, pubescent; dorsal sepal ovate, convex, forming a hood with the petals; lateral sepals spreading, obliquely ovate.Petals adnate to column at the base, 4.5–7 × 2–4 mm, obliquely ovate, sparsely pubescent on outside.Lip hypochile saccate, 2–3 mm long, with a knee-bend at the junction with the epichile, which hangs down at right angles to it; epichile 6–9 × 6–9 mm, cuneate from a narrow base, 3-lobed near the apex, the side lobes broadly rounded, the mid-lobe narrow, shorter than or equal to the side lobes.Column 2.5–4 mm long, stout.
