Information
Annual up to 50 cm high, often densely pubescent; leaves broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate. Inflorescence of 3–15 spreading or appressed racemes on an axis 4–15 cm long; racemes 3–7 cm long, bearing single or paired spikelets loosely spaced on a triquetrous rhachis; pedicels shorter than the spikelets. Spikelets elliptic, 2.5–4.5 mm long, glabrous or papillose-pubescent, obtuse to subacute, with a stipe 0.3–0.7 mm long; lower glume 1/4–1/2 the length of the spikelet, broadly ovate; upper glume and lower lemma thinly cartilaginous, smooth and glossy; upper lemma granulose to rugulose, subacute to mucronulate.

Baldowley, bashi, buldorle agar, caws qaalwaweyn, wiil xaaris (Som.). A record of B. lata (Schumach.) C.E. Hubb. (= Urochloa insculpta (Steud.) Stapf) in Chiov. Fl. Somala 2: 445 (1932) and Cuf. Enum.: 1314 (1969) from southern Somalia is based on Gorini 505, which is B. ovalis.
