plant 1–3 ft. high, with stout leafy stems; leaves 8–10, sessile, amplexicaul, elliptic or elliptic-oblong to ovate, subobtuse or apiculate, 2–6 in. long, 1–2 1/4 in. broad, somewhat fleshy, spreading or recurved, the upper reduced to bract-like sheaths; racemes oblong, rarely somewhat elongate, 4–8 in. long, dense, many-flowered; bracts ovate or ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 3/4–1 1/2 in. long; pedicels 1 3/4–2 in. long; flowers large, green, except the stigmas and lower lobe of the petals, which are white; dorsal sepal cucullate, elliptic-oblong, acute, 9–11 lin. long; lateral sepals obliquely semiovate, acute, 12–14 lin. long; the inner margin adnate to the lip for 1/2 in., then revolute; petals 2-partite; upper lobe falcate-linear, acute; lower lobe lanceolate-linear, acute, 1 1/2 lin. long, curved at the apex; lip 3-lobed to below the middle, 1 3/4 in. long, with linear acute lobes, reflexed at the apex; side lobes diverging, longer than the front lobe; spur 1 1/4–1 1/2 in. long, slender below, clavate and compressed at the apex; column 4 lin. long, apiculate; rostellum cucullate; front apiculate, recurved; side lobes 1/2 in. long; stigmas 1 in. long, spathulate at the apex, the lower half adnate to the combined base of the lip, front lobe of petals and lateral sepals; capsule oblong, 1 1/2–1 3/4 in. long. null
