Shrub or small tree; branchlets rusty pubescent. Leaves 7–15 cm long and wide, bilobed to 0.3–0.5 way down. Flowers in short erect pubescent racemes. Calyx 1.5–2 cm long; hypanthium 2.5–3 cm long. Petals with long claws, the four lower white to pink with purple speckles inside, the upper yellow to pale pink and crimson. Fertile stamen 1. Pods up to 22 x 2–3 cm, thick, flattened.

Ornamental cultivated in S3 (Juba valley) unknown in the wild state but probably of tropical American origin, now cultivated throughout the tropics.
