Information
Perennial suffrutescent herb to 3 m tall; stems several arising from a woody rootstock, erect, ascending or scrambling, much branched especially within inflorescence, rarely almost simple, usually more or less densely pubescent with straight or hooked, patent or retrorse glandular hairs. Leaves sessile or subsessile, thick, rigid, spreading, elliptic to lanceolate, 3–12(–30) mm long, 1–2(–4) mm wide, cuneate or rounded at base, apex acute or obtuse, minutely short-hispid to subglabrous, margins shallowly or deeply serrate or crenate, more or less reflexed. Inflorescence a usually much branched many-flowered raceme; flowers, opposite to subopposite; pedicels 2–5 mm long. Calyx 5–7.5 mm long, shortly hispid; lobes oblong, equal to or slightly shorter than the tube, slightly bilabiate with lobes at times irregularly crenate-dentate. Corolla white to pale pink or at times purple-white to pink or magenta, obliquely campanulate; tube curved, shorter than limb; limb almost equally 5-lobed; style 5.5–7 mm long, minutely pubescent or glabrous. Capsule ovoid to subglobose, (5–)6.5–13 mm long, (4.5–)5–6.5 mm broad, short- to long-pilose. Seeds slightly curved, longitudinally ridged with 6–14 ridges. Fig. 51, p. 196.
