Information
Shrub up to 0.3–1 m tall, fairly much branched; young stems fairly densely pubescent with 0.2–0.5 mm long patent hairs along furrows running above nodes, glabrous along ridges in between. Leaf-blades narrowly obovate, up to 21–23 x 12 mm, with dark glands on lower surface towards base, almost glabrous but with some up to 0.3–0.5 mm long antrorse to appressed hairs on veins and margins, apex mucronate with spine up to c. 1–2 mm long, base attenuate; petiole indistinct, up to c. 3 mm long. Axillary spines 4 in each leaf-axil, up to 13–17 mm long, on up to c. 5–13 mm long common stalk. Inflorescence of single flowers or clusters of apical spike-like units each composed of strongly contracted upper nodes with axillary single flowers; bracts leaf-like, gradually smaller and more whitish towards top of inflorescence, with dark glands on lower surface towards base, mucronate with apical spine up to c. 5 mm long; bracteoles whitish green, narrowly lanceolate-mucronate with reduced blade, transformed into spines, up to 14–15 mm long. Calyx whitish, subglabrous; outer lobes equal, ovate-mucronate, up to 10 x 2 mm, including spine of about half the length. Corolla yellow, 27–34 mm long, 1 lobe united for c. 12–14 mm and 4 lobes for 17–22 mm into a cylindrical tube. Stamens 4, 2 longer up to 25 mm long, 2 shorter c. 5–6 mm long. Capsule 2-seeded, up to 16 mm long, tapering into a long beak, glabrous.
