BAPHIA keniensis Brummitt [family LEGUMINOSAE-PAPILIONOIDEAE], in K.B. 22: 528, fig. 4 (1968). Type: Kenya, Embu/Kitui District, Seven Forks, Kindaruma Dam, Gillett & Faden 18202 (K, holo. !, BM, EA, PRE, et al., iso.)
Information
Shrub up to 5 m. tall. Young branches sparsely pubescent or subglabrous. Leaves: petiole 6–19 mm. long, the interpulvinary part longer than the pulvini; lamina ovate- to elliptic-acuminate, 4–14 cm. long, 1.8–4.3 cm. wide, often wavy at the margin, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, glabrous on both surfaces except on the midrib beneath. Flowers 1–2 from the axils; pedicels slender, 0.7–3.2 cm. long, with sparse brownish hairs; bracteoles ovate- to linear-triangular, 1–3 × 0.3–1.6 mm., inserted immediately below the calyx. Buds acuminate. Calyx 8–10 mm. long, with sparse brown hairs mostly near the apex, splitting down one side. Petals 13–17 mm. long, white, with a golden stripe running up from the base of the standard inside. Stamen-filaments glabrous; anthers 1.4–1.8 mm. long. Ovary densely covered with long forwardly directed hairs. Pod ± rhombic, ± 4 cm. long and 1.8 cm. wide. Seeds not seen. Fig. 11, p. 57.

Notes
A very distinct species, the only one known from Kenya, of uncertain affinity.
