Names
Asplenium torrei Schelpe [family ASPLENIACEAE], in Bol. Soc. Brot., Sér. 2, 41: 209 (1967). Type: Mozambique, Gorongosa, Torre & Paiva 12563 (LISC, holotype).
Information
Rhizome up to 4 mm. in diam., ascending, with tufted fronds and with linear lanceolate attenuate entire clathrate black rhizome-scales c. 3.5 mm. long. Frond apparently suberect, proliferous at the base of the apical segment, thinly coriaceous, darker above than below. Stipe matt-black, up to 30 cm. long, glabrous at maturity except for scattered minute linear-lanceolate dark scales. Lamina up to 35 x 10.5 cm., imparipinnate with a terminal segment resembling a subapical pinna. Pinnae up to 6.2 x 2 cm., elongate trapeziform, the lower slightly auricled acroscopically, sharply acute, slightly falcate, serrate, with the base cuneate, petiolate, glabrous on both surfaces. Rhachis matt-black, with scattered minute hair-like scales. Sori up to 1.5 x 0.1 cm. at maturity, linear, set at an acute angle to a fairly prominent costa; indusium membranous, entire.
