Information
Prostrate, climbing or suberect ± glaucous herb, with an unpleasant smell; stems 10–50 cm long, whitish, from underground rhizome. Leaves ovate to ± round, 1.5–8 x 1.5–7 cm, obtuse, cordate at the base, glabrous; petiole 0.5–4.5 cm long. Flowers solitary or 2–3 together, axillary; bracts ± round, 0.6–1.7 cm in diam.; pedicels up to 2 cm in fruit. Perianth 2.5–4 cm long, the basal inflated part 5–8 mm long, the tubular part 8–15 mm long, hairy within, limb linear-oblong, 12–22 x 3–7 mm, obtuse, hairy inside. Capsule pale, subglobose to ellipsoid, 1–3 x 1.5–2 cm, glabrous, 12-ribbed. Seeds triangular, 5–7 x 4.5 mm, rugose.

Boorow (Som.-S), gedbei (Som.-N).Several collections from S Somalia (including the type of A. benadiriana) have 2(–3) flowers per leaf axil, but otherwise agree completely with the normal form. Outside Somalia the species always seems to have solitary flowers. A. bracteolata is much used in Somali traditional medicine.
