Information
Erect or ascending ephemeral, sometimes branching from base, up to 20 cm long, usually less; all parts glandular hispidulous. Leaves ovate to oblanceolate, lower leaves with base attenuate into petiole, tip acute, obscurely 3-veined, 5.5–12 x 2.2–4(–5) mm, uppermost leaves only slightly reduced. Flowers mostly apparently solitary in leaf axils; pedicels up to 5–9.5 mm long. Sepals subequal, narrowly lanceolate, tip long-acuminate, (2.5–)3–4(–4.5) mm long, margins scarious, veins obscure. Petals obovate, tip rounded, about half as long as sepals. Stamens 10, as long as petals. Ovary globose, styles c. 0.8 mm long. Capsule 2.5–2.8(–3.8) x 1.6–2.1 mm, ovoid, walls ± smooth, thin, ± semitransparent, not breaking when pressed. Seeds rugose, black, (0.4–)0.5–0.6 x (0.35–)0.45–0.5 mm.

Notes
Material from tropical Africa and Arabia has larger leaves and longer sepals than are typical of the species as a whole and has been separated off as A. foliacea. The discontinuity in variation does not seem adequate to justify this.
