Notes
Summerhayes (1960) divided this species into 4 subspecies, but recent work by Baker, in a revision of the Cyrtorchis arcuata complex [M.Sc. thesis, Univ. of Reading (1994)], has reduced this to 2 subspecies, both of which occur in the Flora Zambesiaca area.In the northern region of Malawi, both subspecies sometimes grow together, but subsp. arcuata flowers in April and May, while subsp. whytei flowers in November and December, thus keeping them reproductively isolated.
