Information
Tufted perennial. Culms 1–3 m. high. Leaf-blades up to 30 cm. long, 6 mm. wide. False panicle erect, rather stiff, of 4–6 fastigiate tiers; spatheole narrowly lanceolate, 5–7 cm. long, glabrous or sometimes hirsute, yellowish green eventually becoming reddish, the peduncle 1/2–2/3 as long; racemes 2–3 cm. long, 2-awned per pair, not deflexed; upper raceme-base 2–3(–5) mm. long, the appendage linear to narrowly lanceolate and 4–11 mm. long. Sessile spikelet 10–14 mm. long (including callus); callus 3–6 mm. long; upper glume with or without a mucro up to 2 mm. long; upper lemma with a yellowish awn 5–10 cm. long. Pedicelled spikelet 9–14 mm. long, with or without a terminal bristle up to 6 mm. long. Fig. 183.
