Information
Suffrutescent rhizomatous perennial forming bushes up to 2(–3.6) m high and 1.8 m across; stems woody below, profusely branched above; leaves 2–10 cm x 2–4 mm, flat. Racemes solitary or rarely paired, 2–3 cm long, terminal on short leafy branches and long-exserted on filiform peduncles; internodes and pedicels filiform, villous. Sessile spikelet 5–6.5 mm long including the 0.5 mm long callus; lower glume linear-lanceolate, thinly cartilaginous, shallowly depressed between the thickened lateral keels, nerveless between the keels, acute; upper glume mucronate; upper lemma bifid in the upper 1/4, with an awn 10–25 mm long. Pedicelled spikelet 6–7 mm long; lower glume narrowly lanceolate with a mucro up to 1 mm long (the upper glume similarly mucronate).

Notes
Dulun, durr, toon (Som.). Similar to the Socotran endemic A. bentii Stapf, but a much larger plant with longer, narrower spikelets and longer racemes.
