Notes
A. pulchra represents a form with globose-capitate inflorescences but this character, particularly in specimens with young inflorescences, occurs occasionally throughout the range of subsp. kirkiana. It seems of little significance. The ranges of the two subspecies overlap considerably in N. Rhodesia and in this territory intermediates are fairly common e.g., Macaulay 1004 (K) from Mumbwa, White 3597 (FHO) from Kawambwa and White 1949 (FHO) from Sesheke.
