Information
Annual usually branched herb 10–60 cm. high. Stems and branches 4-gonous, widely winged at the summits. Leaves 15–70× 1·5–11 mm., linear or oblong attenuated to the apex, almost hastate-cordate at the base, sometimes broader above the middle. Dichasia dense, 3-many-flowered; peduncle 1·5–3 mm. long. Flowers pedicellate, the pedicels 1–4 mm. long. Calyx-tube c. 1 mm. long, campanulate; lobes 4, deltate; appendages 4, short, horn-shaped. Petals 4, 0.5–0·6 mm. long, obovate, pinkish, caducous. Stamens 4, inserted ± at the middle of the calyx-tube. Ovary 0·7–1 mm. in diameter, globose; style 0·5–1 mm. long. Capsule 1·5–1·8 mm. in diameter, globose, exserted. Seeds c. 0·4 mm. long.

Sands, banks of water courses, edges of swamps, marshes, etc.
