Names
ALOE retrospiciens Reynolds & Bally [family ALOACEAE], (1958);. type: N1, “Darburruk”, 90 km from “Hargeisa” on road to “Berbera”, Reynolds 8482 (PRE holo., EA K iso.).
ALOE ruspoliana Berger var. dracaeniformis [family ALOACEAE], in Engl., Pflanzenr. IV.38III.ii.: 266 (1908);. type: probably N1, near “Hargeisa”, Ruspoli & Riva 227 (?B holo., FT iso.).
Information
Plants usually branched from ground level, with 2–6 stems to 125 cm high. Leaves c. 12 in a lax rosette covering the upper 10–20 cm of stems, c. 25 x 5–6 cm, lanceolate with subobtuse apex, bluish-grey with reddish tinge, unicoloured or with very few pale spots; margins with cartilaginous white border and firm white teeth, 1 mm long, 5 mm apart. Inflorescences 45 cm high, with 6–12 spreading branches; racemes 3–5 cm long fairly dense; bracts 5 x 2.5 mm; pedicels 5–6 mm long. Flowers yellow, nutant to secund; perianth 20 mm long, 6 mm across the ovary, outer tepals free for 10 mm. Anthers exserted 3 mm. Stigma exserted 4 mm. Ovary 3 x 2 mm.
