acaulescent; leaves 60–80, ovate-lanceolate, densely rosulate, 4–6 in. long, 1 1/4–1 1/2 in. broad below the middle, acuminate, glaucous when young only, 1/8 in. thick in the centre, obscurely lineate on both sides, unspotted; margin with copious, lanceolate-deltoid, brown, horny teeth 1/8– 1/6 in. long; back smooth or slightly prickly upwards; peduncle very stout, under a foot long, furnished all the way up with copious, large, ovate-acuminate empty bracts; raceme dense, simple, 1/2–1 ft. long; pedicels ascending, 1–1 1/2 in. long; bracts ovate with a long cusp, as long as the pedicels; perianth subcylindrical, straight, pale or bright red tipped with green, 1 1/4–1 1/2 in. long; segments much longer than the tube; stamens and style included or finally just exserted. null
