leaves about a dozen in a sessile rosette, suberect, narrowly linear, channelled deeply down the face, 5–6 in. long, spotted with white; margin armed with abundant, spreading, minute, white teeth; peduncle simple, 6–9 in. long, with several empty bracts in the upper part; flowers many in a dense subcapitate raceme, the lower cernuous; pedicels ascending, 1/4– 1/2 in. long; bracts ovate-acuminate, nearly as long as the pedicels; perianth pale-red, cylindrical, 4–5 lines long; tube very short; stamens and style not exserted. null
