Notes
Around Nairobi this is a stable entity with exactly similar specimens having been collected in the same place over a period of 25 years but forms occur with leaves with only a few scattered hairs, e.g. Mettam 164 (Kiambu District, Kabete, 1860 m.) - it is by inspection clearly the same taxon. The dense-flowered forms are distinctive, e.g. Battiscombe 934 which has many more male than female flowers (Nairobi Arboretum - wild part, c. 1919). Coastal forms usually have much shorter inflorescences. Forms with branched inflorescences are rather frequent and correspond to A. stachyanthus. It is frequently impossible to name them and many have been determined as hybrids with A. africanus, but on no evidence.
