Information
Small shrub, spreading to 1 m.; branchlets scurfy at tips but soon thickened, grey, glabrescent and prominently lenticellate. Leaves alternate; petiole 1–5 mm. long; lamina thinly coriaceous, deep green, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, 4–8 cm. long, 2–3 cm. wide, obtuse to rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base, few-nerved, the second pair ascending almost to apex (sometimes scarcely apparent). Umbels 1–several, sessile, with 2–4 flowers in sockets; bract cupular, 2–3 mm. long, slightly lacerate, sparsely ciliolate, sometimes with a small limb. Receptacle 2 mm. long; calyx tubular, 3–5 mm. long, shortly toothed, ciliate, circumscissile near the base as the corolla swells, the detached part persistent on the corolla-tube. Corolla 3.2–4.2 cm. long, tube red, lobes yellow over vents, with darker red tip; apical swelling of bud slight, 5 mm. long; basal swelling globose-ellipsoid, 4 mm. long, 3–3.5 mm. in diameter; lobes erect, 7–8 mm. long, linear-oblanceolate in the upper two-thirds to three-quarters. Filaments inflexed, orange-yellow, the last 1 mm. hardened, paler, thickened; tooth 0.2–0.3 mm. long; anthers 2.5 mm. long. Style slender, red, slightly expanded opposite the filaments, narrowed to a neck 3 mm. long; stigma capitate, 0.7–0.8 mm. across. Berry not seen. Fig. 10/18 (p. 47).

Notes
Easily recognised by the calyx split around the base by the expanding corolla-base and retained as a dried ring around the narrow part of the corolla-tube. In other respects the species is similar to A. elegantulus, which occurs further north.
