Notes
The A. caudatum complex is a difficult one and will continue to cause problems. There is great variation in the degree of incision of the pinnae of A. incisum and a weak distinction can be made between plants with less incised ± glabrous pinnae at higher altitudes and those with deeply incised or lobed hairy pinnae from lower altitudes; but there are intermediates. At Wundanyi in the Taita Hills diploids with hairy, more incised pinnae occur together with tetraploids with glabrous, less incised pinnae. Ghatak (Bull. Bot. Surv. India 5: 71–77 (1963)) does not accept Pichi-Sermolli’s identification of some Indian material as A. incisum and describes it as A. indicum Ghatak.
