Notes
M.F. Badré, who kindly sent me a xerox copy of Fée’s type of A. confine (Réunion, de Montbrison; P, holo., K, xerox!), has synonymised it with A. rhizophorum. Curiously Cordemoy, Fl. I’Ile Réunion 1 (Crypt. vasc.) (1891) does not mention A. confine. Tardieu-Blot (1953) (see above) records it from the Seychelles and Madagascar but in her treatment for Fl. Madag. 5 (1) (1958) she does not mention it, but does describe A. rhizophorum var. comorense in Fl. Madag. 5 (1): 129 (1958). In 1964 she recorded A. confine from mainland Africa and the Comoro Is. Hooker describes A. rhizophorum as everywhere glabrous but t. 80/a shows distinct hairs. I have examined the syntypes of A. rhizophorum Sw. (S) and am convinced that it is different from mainland African material long placed under A. confine .
