Information
Subshrub 0.9 [2.5]* m tall; stems ridged, shortly ferruginous pubescent. Leaflets 3, 9–17 × [5] 8–12 cm, the terminal broadly elliptic or slightly rhombic-elliptic, the laterals slightly oblique, rounded to acute at the apex, truncate to subcordate at the base, sparsely appressed pubescent on upper surface, pubescent and glandular beneath, the venation strongly raised and reticulate beneath; petiole [3] 5.5–10 cm long; rhachis 1.8–4.5 cm long; petiolules 5–10 mm long; stipules [not seen] 11 × 1.5 mm, lanceolate. Inflorescences axillary and terminal, branched at the base, the axillary ones shorter than the leaves, [5] 7–17 cm long, the terminal ones 30 cm long or more; pedicels 5–8 mm long; bracts 5 [7] × 1.5 [5] mm, lanceolate; bracteoles 6 mm long, linear; all parts fulvous pubescent. Calyx tube 4 mm long; lowest lobe 12 × 3 mm, the rest 7.5 × 1.8–2.5 mm, lanceolate, the upper pair joined for just over half their length. Flowers violet-red or purple; standard [16 × 13], c. 12 mm in diameter, round, auriculate at the base and with 2 close calli near the base; claw 2 mm long, channelled; wings (10)13 mm long including the 3.8 mm long claw, the spur narrow, almost as long as the claw, blade rounded, 5 mm wide. Pods 5.5 × 1.2–1.6 cm, oblanceolate-falcate [not known]. Ripe seeds not seen.

Notes
I am not satisfied this is truly Adenodolichos exellii (which is otherwise known only from the type, an Angolan shrub to 2.5 m*) nor that the material is uniform. Field observations on the growth forms in this genus and their variation with various burning regimes are much needed.
