Tall climber, somewhat woody, glabrous; tendrils simple or 3-fid, 5–20 cm long. Leaves entire to deeply 3(–5)-lobed, orbicular or ovate in outline, ± truncate at the base, 2.5–11 cm long, 3-nerved from the base; margin entire; petiole 1.5–11 cm long; gland at base of blade single, on a spathulate appendage at the transition to the petiole; glands on blade mostly present. Inflorescences pedunculate, few- to many-flowered in male plants, 2–6-flowered in female plants, with or without tendril. Male flowers campanulate, 11–17 mm long including stipe. Hypanthium narrow, cup-shaped; sepals 7–10 mm long. Petals 6–11 mm long, fringed. Corona absent. Female flowers 5.5–8 mm long; pistil 3.5–6 mm long; styles short or absent. Fruit broadly ellipsoid, 2.5–4 cm long, leathery. Seeds 3.5–5.5 mm long.
