the straight, sub-simple stem and the angular branches glabrous; leaves crowded, erecto-patent, oblong or ovate-oblong, the upper often ovate, tipped with an obtuse, callus, glabrous, with revolute margins, few-dotted or impunctate beneath; flowers capitate, glutinous; bracts cuneate, dilated upwards, keeled, the keel produced into a thickened, obtuse point; calyx glabrous, its lobes ovate-elliptical, obtuse, with recurved points, not glandular; petals roundish, thrice as long as the calyx. 1 1/2 feet high. Leaves on very short petioles, 4–6 lines long, 1 1/2–2 lines wide, the upper mostly smaller and less crowded, pale green underneath, shining, one-nerved, with impressed glands at the margin. Heads 4–8-flowered, involucred by the broadly-ovate or sub-rotund uppermost leaves. Bracts appressed to the calyx, 2 1/2 lines long, complicato-carinate, membrane-edged, prolonged into an obtuse, three-angled cusp. Calyx 2 1/2 lines long, its lobes thickened and purple upwards. Petals white within, flesh-coloured or reddish externally, glabrous.
