Suffruticose or herbaceous; stems hirsute or hirsute-tomentose when young. Leaves ovate or rhomboid-ovate, acutely caudate-acuminate, narrowly truncate, rounded or cordate at the base, 2–3 1/2 in. long, 1 1/4–2 in. broad, coarsely serrate, membranous, setose on both surfaces, digitately 5–7-nerved at the base, remaining lateral nerves 4–5 on each side, prominent on both surfaces; transverse nerves subparallel, slender; petiole 1–2 in. long, more or less pilose or hirsute; stipules subulate-filiform, 1 1/2–2 lin. long, rather densely pilose. Inflorescence bisexual, axillary, solitary, 1–3 in. long, about 3–4 female flowers towards the base, the remaining portion male, slender. Male buds very minutely pubescent. Female bracts deeply digitately 5-lobed (rarely 7-lobed), including the lobes about 3 lin. long and 5 lin. broad, lobes linear-lanceolate, acute, submembranous, very sparingly ciliolate, setulose at the apex, otherwise nearly glabrous. Sepals 3, ovate, about 1/4 lin. long, ciliate. Ovary densely hirsute; styles 3, slender, 3 lin. long, laciniate, rhachis nearly glabrous. Seeds subovoid, minutely mucronate, faintly pitted, 1 lin. long.
