Information
Herb or subshrub, up to c. 1.5 m tall, with a ± yellowish dense indumentum. Leaves petiolate; blade broadly ovate to suborbicular, up to c. 8 x 8 cm, cordate at the base, with shallowly crenate or dentate margins, stellate-pubescent and ± rough above, softly tomentose beneath. Flowers in upper leaf axils; pedicels up to 8 cm long. Calyx 12–19 mm long, ultimately equalling or exceeding the ripe fruit. Petals c. 18 mm long, yellow. Staminal column glabrous or with tufts of stellate hairs at the line of fusion with the petals. Mericarps c. 20–26, (2–)3-seeded, densely hairy, 12–14 x 5–6 mm, dosal corner with a triangular-acuminate point ending in a short awn. Seeds c. 2.5–3 mm long, glabrous, often minutely rugulose-verrucose.
Range
S1–3 widespread in tropical Africa and in Madagascar.
Altitude range
c. 50–400 m.
