ANTHOCLEISTA inermis Engl. [family LOGANIACEAE], in Engl. Jahrb. viii. 63.
Information
An erect tree, 25–30 ft. high; branchlets unarmed, 1/4– 1/3 in. in diam.; internodes very short. Upper leaves 1 ft. or more long by about 4 in. broad, membranous, lanceolate or elongate-lanceolate, obtuse, cuneately narrowed below, shortly and obtusely auricled at the base; auricles of opposite leaves connate; nerves about 13 on each side; petiole sulcate above, 1 1/4–1 1/2 in. long. Cymes sparingly compound, much shorter than the leaves; bracts widely triangular, cartilaginous; pedicels short. Calyx 1/4 in. long; outer lobes orbicular. Corolla not seen. Fruit subglobose, 2/3 in. in diam. Seeds 3/4 lin. in diam.
Distribution
Congo Lower Guinea Smith! on an island near Ponta da Lenha, Naumann.
