Notes
The possession of the specialized short axillary flower-bearing shoots serves to distinguish this species from all other East African Sapotaceae. The condition is foreshadowed in A. adolfi-friedericii where a single gathering, Hockliffe in F.D. 1369, from Mt. Kenya, shows a parallel development of young axillary flower-bearing shoots near the branch apex, but some of these bear typical foliage leaves and differ but slightly from normal axillary branchlets.
