Names
ALOE somaliensis Watson [family ALOACEAE], (1899);. type: N1, without precise locality, Cole 261/1895 (K holo.).
Information
Plants stemless, single or forming small groups. Leaves 12–20, spreading or ascending, 20–40 x 6–8 cm, shiny, brownish to dark green with numerous whitish spots and, in var. marmorata, darker green markings; margins with brown teeth, 4 mm long, 4–10 mm apart. Inflorescences with 5–15 branches, 60–85 cm tall; racemes cylindric, lax, to 20 cm long; bracts 6–8 x 3–4 mm; pedicels 8–10 mm long. Flowers pinkish-scarlet to bright red, pendulous but subsecund on lateral racemes; perianth 26–30 mm long, 9 mm across the ovary, outer tepals free for 10–13 mm. Anthers exserted 1–2 mm. Stigma exserted 2–3 mm. Ovary olive green, 6 x 3 mm.
