Rhizome thick, compact or shortly creeping; scales uniform brown, linear-lanceolate, (1.5–)3–4 mm long, 0.8–1 mm wide, entire. Fronds tufted, arching or pendent, 20–95 cm long; stipe chestnut-brown to purple-black, 1/4 to 1/3 the length of the frond, shining, glabrous, with a few broad scales at the base; lamina lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 6–25 cm wide, long-attenuate at the apex, 2–3-pinnate; pinnae in 10–15 pairs, gradually reduced, alternate, glabrous, the basal pinnule overlapping the rhachis; pinnules obovate to oblong or rhombic-ovate, 0.7–2.5 cm long, 0.5–1.8 cm wide, cuneate at the base, shortly stalked, the colour of the stalk running into the segment base, glabrous, lobed and incised, the veins running into the sinuses; sterile segments denticulate. Sori kidney-shaped; indusium often whitish, 1–1.5 mm wide, glabrous, thin, entire with abruptly flaring margins.
