Softly woody shrub up to 2.5 m. tall; stems 3-angled or narrowly winged, sparingly strigulose, or, less often, brown pubescent. Stipules linear-attenuate, up to 1 cm. long; rhachis sparsely strigulose, up to 2 or 3 mm. wide near the base, up to 14 cm. long, including a petiole of ± 2 cm., prolonged up to 10 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; leaflets firm, 11–17 or rarely 19, with petiolules up to 4 mm. long and filiform stipellae up to 2 mm. long, elliptic-oblong, up to 45 mm. long and 20 mm. wide, sparingly strigulose on both surfaces. Racemes many-flowered, densely brown strigulose, up to 16 cm. long, including a peduncle of up to 6 cm.; bracts lanceolate, sometimes large (up to 5 mm. long and 1.5 mm. wide) and reflexed at the tip, sometimes shorter, narrower and straight, caducous; pedicels ± 2 mm. long in flower, ± 4 mm. long and reflexed in fruit. Calyx densely brown strigulose, 1.5 mm. long; lobes triangular, shorter than the tube. Corolla densely brown strigulose outside; keel obtuse. Stamens 5–12 mm. long. Pod cylindrical, wider towards the apex, shortly beaked and sometimes upturned at the tip, up to 4.5 cm. long and 3 mm. wide; endocarp brown, obscurely spotted. Seeds 6–8, round, smooth, widely separated.
