Description
Gessi regrets to write of the death of Freeman at Berber. He says how Freeman stayed at Colonel’s house and how Colonel had asked Gessi to help plan out part of Freeman’s trip. Gessi tried his best to keep Freeman on a diet but he kept smuggling in cucumbers to eat. Gessi sends a copy of the letter to the Head of the Mission of Berber with a translation. He has telegraphed the Mission about Freeman’s belongings and money but has had no response. He will telegraph again in the morning and also telegraph the General Consul in Cairo to sell the objects belonging to Freeman so the money can be sent back to England to his family. Lucas has fever and every time he diets, he feels better but he cannot help himself to other foods. Gessi thinks that Lucus is paid too much and is inexperienced. He believes he should be sent back to England. Gessi fears that Lucus may not have long to live as he looks like a skeleton, but his strength is growing from day to day. He has sent Lucus some meat from Australia to help with the fever. Gessi will forward Freeman’s stuff to Lucus via the General Consul in Cairo as no merchants venture down there from Cairo and none go up. Page 1 of 3.
