Biography
Italian botanist who came to England as an assistant to John Sibthorp. While in Athens during Sibthorp's second expedition Borone, aged just 25, was killed in an accidental fall from a window apparently while collecting a plant. On this ill-fated expedition, Sibthorp also became ill and died shortly after his return leaving his monumental Greek flora unfinished. The genus Boronia Sm. In the Rutaceae was named in honour of Borone by J.E. Smith, who also continued Sibthorp's flora. Boronella Baill. also commemorates his name.
