Biography
French naturalist who was professor of comparative anatomy at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. He was the leader of the Mission de Coelacanth expedition (1952), which searched around the Comoros for the coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae), a fish belonging to a group formerly thought to be extinct before its chance discovery in 1938. He was also interested in succulent plants and collected in the Comoros and Madagascar.
